Bokashi Composting
We use the Bokashi system as a pre-treatment for the difficult-to-break-down food scraps (oily stuff) and everything that we can’t throw in the worm farm or the hot compost.
This is an anaerobic process, so is should be done in a hermetically sealed container. The liquid should be removed whether by having a second bucket underneath with the first one pierced or by having a small tap at the bottom of the bokashi container.
The process is simple, simply throw all food scraps (see list below) in a bin, add 50g of bokashi activator and close it down, once filled up, keep it shut for at least 21 days, after 21 days, the content can be thrown in the hot compost as nitrogen layer.
